Revitalize Milwaukee Programs
Revitalize Milwaukee completes essential repairs necessary to enable homeowners to remain safely in their homes. These repairs are critical in preventing deferred maintenance, which almost inevitably leads to larger issues down the road. Examples include: carpentry, door and lock repair, porch repair, updating electrical items and minor plumbing repairs.
Block Build MKE is a weekend build event bringing together partners, corporations and volunteers to work on a block of homes in one neighborhood. Volunteers donate their skills and sweat equity to complete numerous repairs, accessibility updates and overall cleanup. Materials, supplies and professional services are donated to ensure that homeowners are left with a safe and healthy environment.
The Chore Services program was designed to broaden our typical scope of work to include handyman or other chore services seniors might need help with. These items, such as changing batteries in a smoke detector, replacing a light bulb or flipping a mattress, become difficult for an aging homeowner and, if not taken care of, can make the home unsafe.
We all find ourselves with plumbing problems, water heater issues or even electrical problems. Our clients have these challenges coupled with complications of being low-income elderly, veterans and/or people with disabilities. Our emergency repair program is the only FREE repair service and is designed to help our most vulnerable homeowners.
To create a safe environment for homeowners who are elderly and/or have a disability, Revitalize Milwaukee determines which modifications are necessary to allow them to safely and more easily complete daily tasks. RM installs and constructs specialty products, such as ramps, door levers, walk-in showers and grab bars. RM also modifies appliances and other basic household fixtures that frequently present a challenge for homeowners to operate.
The Fee for Service program is designed to build our mission and existing experience in home repair and accessibility modifications. Those homeowners who are over the income limit, but meet all other eligibility requirements, can receive RM’s services. They then pay a fee that is determined on a sliding scale, based on annual income and ability to pay. This program will subsidize our work to provide home repairs to those who cannot afford them via income from repair jobs done for those who can.
Revitalize Milwaukee partners with diverse organizations and businesses that share the same goal of keeping vulnerable homeowners in a safe environment in which they can age with dignity. With these collaborative partnerships, we provide homeowners with the tools they need to ensure their continuous contributions to the neighborhoods in which they live.
Revitalize Milwaukee rehabilitates foreclosed and donated homes for revitalization. We are able to transition Real Estate Owned properties (REOs) into safe and affordable homes for low-income families, while providing sustainable wages for local contractors, adding to the city's tax base and returning revenue to Revitalize Milwaukee's operating funds. These funds allow us to provide additional FREE home repairs.
