Revitalize Milwaukee Announces Communities for Block Build MKE 2017

The Clarke Square neighborhood near South 17th Street has been chosen as the neighborhood for Revitalize Milwaukee’s 2017 Block Build MKE. This year’s Block Build will take place on May 19th and 20th and will revitalize approximately 30 homes. The Clark Street neighborhood will be the recipient of tens of thousands of dollars of repairs and improvements including beautification projects, critical repairs and large scale rehabs. This will give families the chance to receive repairs needed for them to remain safe and secure in their homes. Every house chosen will receive landscaping, new mailboxes, and house numbers. Revitalize Milwaukee will be able to impact the neighborhood positively through the collaboration of community partners and hundreds of volunteers.

In addition to one major Block Build, Revitalize Milwaukee will be holding several Mini Block Builds throughout the year. The Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers Mini Block Build is scheduled for July and will take place in the area around Lincoln Avenue Elementary School on South 18th Street. This neighborhood has been faced with significant economic, housing and environmental declines due to crime and poverty. The Near West Side Partners Mini Block Build has also been chosen for September and will focus on areas on the east side of Miller Valley. Many of homes in this area were built between 1900-1920 and their needs include safety, utility and aesthetics. Ten homes in each of these neighborhoods will receive a major rehab and an additional ten homes will receive beautification projects.

The Riverworks Development Corporation was chosen for a Shevitalize Block Build in October and will focus on the north end of the Harambee neighborhood. Shevitalize will be Revitalize Milwaukee’s first women build. This is a women helping women event, and will highlight women business owners, women donors, women volunteers and women veterans. At least, ten homes in this block will receive major rehabs and 10 homes will receive beautification projects.
